Why we are getting Wonder Woman and Potential Problems

Director Zach Snyder announced that Gal Gadot( Fast and Furious) will play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Snyder stated, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.

The following is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree with me!

My first reaction to the news of Wonder Woman being in Man of Steel 2 wasn’t favorable. However, despite me not wanting Wonder Woman to appear in this movie, it makes sense. It’s no surprise that DC wants to do what Marvel has done, and establish a shared cinematic universe ( hence why we are getting Batman v Superman to begin with). Marvel and Disney have proved that it can be insanely profitable and popular. It is also no surprise that if DC wants to get a shared cinematic universe going they will have to have  Wonder Woman, and the only way to launch Wonder Woman, at this point, will be to have her appear in Man of Steel 2.  Wonder Woman, right now, cannot carry her own film. Mainly because she’s never been on the big screen and female superhero movies have bombed..  With why we are getting Wonder Woman, on to the casting choice. It sucks ( said with all sorts of mercy and grace). The first problem with having Gal Gadot is that she does not fit the build of Wonder Woman. She is a very tiny woman. However, she was in the Israeli army, so maybe we might get some decent fight scenes. Now, nobody knows what Wonder Woman is going to do in the movie, so this may just be a very minor thing, especially if she is just a love interest or a plot device. Another problem with this casting choice, and the biggest problem, is that Gal Gadot has just been a supporting character, and doesn’t have too much potential to carry her own movie, yet alone a blockbuster franchise. In face, she hasn’t shown any flashes of potential with the time she has had on screen.  I know she won’t have to carry Man of Steel 2, but DC has bigger plans for Wonder Woman. Now, this may be a stroke of genius on the part of Warner Brothers to cast Gal Gadot, but until we see the movie we won’t know. So when you are going to see it, see it with an open mind and hope for the best, I know I will.

  1. The new WW/Superman comic ruined her, but her minor bad a$$ takes in the Injustice comics and in the animated Flash Point were very, very cool. Hopefully, she will have a personality, unlike what Thor was done to Portman. Why has Marvel reduced an Oscar-caliber actress to giggling about getting calls from god? Blah. We should be excited about this, but we’re not.

      1. I like her smallness in the sense that I want to see a tiny thing bashing a large thing, i.e. T2 bashing Ah’Nold. However, I agree with you that she needs to be intimidating. Hopefully, we get something better than that failed Ally McBeal TV atrocity 😉
