Back to the Future Comes to Life!

Starting in 2015, the same year Marty McFly and Doc Brown went to the future,  Nike will be selling Marty’s self tying power laced high tops.  These are the shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future Part II. Nike has been planning to release these shoes since 2010, when they filed for a patent on them. This isn’t the first time that Nike has released shoes for the popular 1980’s film franchise. Back in 2011, Nike released the Nike Mag, which all were sold on Ebay and all of the proceeds benefited the Micheal J Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research.

All in all, this is a total buy for me. I absolutely love the Back to the Future franchise, and to see some of the cool ‘ high tech’ gadgets from the movie coming into reality is simply amazing. I think, economically, Back to the Future and Universal Studios will benefit greatly from this. Nike is beyond the most popular apparel brand in the United States, and with Nike endorsing Back to the Future shoes, it will create more awareness for the franchise. Also, I feel that more people will be introduced to the franchise for the first time, much like how the Star Wars prequels introduced a new generation to the franchise in the early 2000’s. Universal Studios is grinning ear to ear, and this could spin off another installment in the Back to the Future franchise, especially if this announcement gets more and more hype in the coming months, and the shoes become a hot item. Regardless if we get another installment in the franchise or not, be on the look out for the original cast of the series to make special appearances in the coming months to hype the shoe and the franchise
