Lego Movie Dethrone

 1. Non-Stop– $30 million.
  2. Son of God-$26.5 million
  3. The Lego Movie-$21 million.
  4. The Monuments Men- $5 million.
  5. 3 Days to Kill-$4.9 million.

This weekend saw the three week domination of The Lego Movie come to an end. Liam Neeson’s new action flick not only beat out the dominant, and smash hit The Lego Movie, but it also beat out the debuting Son of God. Son of God was a complete wild card this weekend in the box office race. The last depiction of Jesus on the big screen came back in 2004 with Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, which raked in over $80 million in its opening weekend and over $125 million in its first five days. Even though Son of God did not do The Passion of the Christ numbers, it did do very well relative to its budget. Fox Searchlight should be very happy with its performance. The last thing to note is that Frozen had a big weekend. Frozen not only one a handful of Oscars, but the surprise hit also crossed $1 billion worldwide.
